About ICE Boys Beach Volleyball.
WWVBC’s ICE Beach Volleyball program was founded in 2007 as a way for our club’s players to continue their training throughout the summer. The program reinforces the skills players learn through the indoor game while teaching them basic beach volleyball skills and strategy. This summer marks the first summer that the program will be expanding to include a boys beach volleyball program, and we are very excited about it! Boys practices will be held at Bicentennial Park on Monday and Wednesday nights, as well as at Mercer County Park on Thursdays. Practices at both venues will begin at 5:30 pm and will run until 8:30 pm or sundown, whichever comes first. They will consist of at least an hour of developmental drills followed by a few hours of live game play. Players are encouraged to get to practice early to help set up the courts and to warm up.
The program will run weekly from June 1st through August 31st and encourages all players to take part in tournaments through Great American Volleyball (GreatAmericanVolleyball.com). GAV will host tournaments every weekend and will allow players the choice of competing in juniors, men’s, or coed tournaments from the beginning of May through the middle of September. The official schedule for GAV tournaments is expected to be released later this month. WWVBC also intends to host several inner-club tournaments this season, and is greatly looking forward to joining forces with the girls end of our club for the first annual ICE Coed Challenge. Thanks to the support of The East Brunswick Department of Parks and Recreation and Mercer County Park, as well as the parents and players of WWVBC, we are able to offer upcoming juniors beach players the opportunity to fine tune their skills between weekend tournaments. So far this year the program’s coaches are Taras Borysyuk (Head of GAV’s Juniors BEACH Volleyball Tour), Alex Hodge (WWVBC Club Coach) with more to be announced.
